Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Paul R — 06 May 2012
Alec Guiness is Colonel Nicholson, a very stubborn and principled British Colonel in World War II, who along with all his men is captured and they become prisoners of war under the strict rule of Colonel Saito.
As prisoners they must build a bridge and Nicholson is hell bent on keeping order and making the bridge as a statement about British quality and that they are the best, but a group of soldiers have other ideas and intend to blow up the bridge.
Director David Lean takes us all deep into the Burmese jungle and the film is full of fantastic shots and cinematography. The cast are all amazing and this is Alec Guinessâ?? best ever performance. I recently bought this on remastered Blu ray and it looks stunning.
This is a top quality war film, full of tension & drama with a great story. You really root for the characters and can really feel the tension build from scene to scene. Fantastic film. Watch this.
