Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Goofball Galahad — 23 Jul 2009
Incredible case of a film literately taking a life of its own and competing for attention with the spectacular performance of it's true star-namely, Sir Alec. His Nicholson is an once-in-a-lifetime character, and Guinness effortlessly relishes in it, but it's almost as if he's quietly fighting for his screentime in the enormous film.
Even more amazingly, it works, and actually seems to help the film's message about the absurdities not only of war but of blind ambition.
