Review of The Bridge of San Luis Rey (2004) by Sol C — 16 Mar 2008
How many oscar winning actors can one squeeze into a movie??? I took a chance on this film expecting it to be rather a bore and actually it wasn't. It gets a bit long winded at times but the story is fascinating. It reallly looks at a time period and class of people we don't often see in film and some of the performances are very good. The movies tells three stories, all of them at one point or another crossing and all of them leading to the fateful day on which the bridge collapses and five people die.
If you are not a fan of art movies or period pieces, steer clear of this one. If you like a thought provoking, character study... this one's for you.
