This is a great period piece; a slice of 1980's teenage life. The faithfulness with which the film embodies the 1980's is probably it's greatest strength but is also it's greatest weakness as it's relevance come across distinctly and almost intentionally distant.

Movies that address big picture issues need to have a timeless quality about them and this is unequivocally bound to 1985. The cultural relevance of this "culture" piece has now been reduced to reference jokes on Family Guy and Community.
