After rewatching THE BREAKFAST CLUB for the tenth time, I finally realized why it was so annoying for me to watch. The character/romantic development in this particular film is terrible. The reason I give this film a 3 out of 5 is because there are only 3 performances worth watching in this film.

Estevez, Sheedy, and Hall (and Gleason, but he's a teacher so he doesn't count). Nelson gives a good performance, but has a limited character (Hughes fault). Despite his tragic home life, Bender comes off as an unbelievable prick.

Many kids go through traumatic experiences (myself included), and internalize it, so they don't have to make anyone else miserable. Ringwald...I don't even know what her character was doing in this film.

A spoiled brat that has zero issues. How can she relate? The end of the film is rushed, where the teens quickly pair up in couples, leaving the nerd with no one. A flawed script and terrible pacing are major flaws in this film.
