Review of The Breakfast Club (1985) by Joao De B — 13 Sep 2014
Maybe I've grown sick of people reminding me how good it is or maybe it just isn't that great but The Breakfast Club is a movie with some great moments and some utterly horrible moments. The film often comes across as a shallow, empty film that tries so hard to get teenagers to connect with it but also comes across as a sweet and well-meaning film.
I can't give it a bad review but I can't give it a glowing review either. The incredibly funny scenes are undermined by the unintentionally funny scenes (the dancing, the glass breaking, and the whistling) which are both gimmicky and cringe-worthy.
Overall The Breakfast Club is a decent movie but an incredibly overrated movie.
