Review of The Breakfast Club (1985) by Waldir P — 20 Dec 2014
While I accept that its simplistic and straightforward plot and characters were intended as such, I wish the characters were made a tad more believable. I get that the point was to highlight the stereotypes in order to break them down later, but I felt that that could have be done in a much more believable way. They often either got too grandiose and eloquent for teenagers (who the hell says "I don't think from a legal standpoint what he did can be construed as X (plot point omitted)" in ordinary speech?), or got excessively silly with childish antics.
Perhaps it's just an effect of having seen several high school films that came after it, most likely were influenced by it, and gradually improved the genre, or perhaps it's just a film I should have seen when I was younger. In any case, although it was definitely entertaining and interesting, I don't think I would see it again.
