Review of The Breakfast Club (1985) by Sam D — 09 Apr 2015
A timeless high school classic about breaking down the barriers of the status quo that cemented John Hughes as the ultimate voice of generation x and teenage angst for all time. The Brat Pack is in full-force here with career-defining roles from many of the cast and each actor portrays their character flawlessly; Bender being my personal favourite! The story is incredibly simple, but full of nuance and the coming-of-age backdrop is relatable to every adolescent who is unsure of their identity.
The film is perfect on every level with too many classic moments to name and plenty of hilarious exchanges against the dictatorial principal Vernon and each of the characters in detention. This film also made me fall in love with the song, Don't You Forget About Me and it closes out the movie with Bender's iconic fist raised to the sky in triumph!
