Review of The Break-Up (2006) by Karl V — 17 Jan 2010
95% drama, 5% comedy. I was really led to believe this would be a fun little romp with a simple equation: dude is a lazy douche, learns a few life lessons, turn some shit around, and is rewarded by getting the girl back. And all the while we're chuckling at easy, instantly forgettable jokes.
This is not the case. The break up the two go through is painfully real. I applaud the filmmakers for making an honest movie; they don't pull any punches. SPOILER ALERT (I already gave it away but fuck) because they don't get back together, I was like hmmmmm that's refreshing in a way. Groovy. I wasn't laughing much at all at this movie (except fat Jon Favreau)...but rather, wincing the night away. I had definitely been there before.
There isn't much flair or magic to be had; it's a pretty vanilla movie. Until we get to see Jennifer Aniston's nice vanillaHOLD UP.
I WONT GO THERE.
I GO THERE EVERY REVIEW and this time I'm not going to talk about a nice roundALMOST DID IT AGAIN.
I'm done. Gotta get that image out of my head...but I will be struggling.
