Review of The Break-Up (2006) by Lloyd H — 05 Apr 2013
The intent is there, but overall this film lacks meaning and direction. I enjoy Vince Vaughn's films I suppose, in all his films he's big, loud, annoying, witty and sarcastic. But for the entirety of this film he's just annoying and unlikeable.
Jennifer Aniston's performance is simply a carbon copy of every role she's played prior to this. However she's likeable as always and this covers up her somewhat occasional bad performances.
From the outset the two stars looked and behaved totally different to one another and where never believable together on screen. This film ultimately fails because it isn't funny. There are the occasional chuckle moments but other than that it's poor.
The story has no imagination and concludes disappointingly. Vaughn and Aniston are completely inappropriate for one another and they're never believable of getting back together because they're so miss matched.
So the unanswered question, do they or don't they get back together? just torments the mind. This is not because you want to know what happens, but just because you wished you hadn't wasted nearly two watching this pointless film.
