Review of The Break-Up (2006) by Lewis E — 27 Sep 2013
The promotional poster shows Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Anniston separated by some tape reading "pick a side" but even as a male, I could not see how anyone would choose sides with Vaughn's annoying, asshole character (no wonder he got the part).
Even less likely though is me choosing sides with anyone who says this is a funny movie. Vaughn is convincing in his role but I found it impossible to believe that anyone would want to get back together with him.
He also succeeds in creating practically zero comedy which is just great since he is given 90% of the so called jokes in this film. Jon Favreau and Jason Bateman did their best to help the situation when they were on screen but to little effect.
Anniston is always great to watch (physically). She is a great specimen who only seems to get better with age but her character is so boring, causing me to wonder why I watched this rather than just get a good picture of her and stick it on my bedroom wall.
Yes, I am guilty of stereotyping here but I really think this may be a strong watch for the girls because of the type of humour used while they'll also find Anniston's predicament easier to sympathise with.
For me, my butt will have a quick break-up with the sofa next time this is on.
