Review of The Brave One (2007) by Patrick C — 19 Apr 2009
Jodie Foster is Erica Bain a victim of a brutal attack and takes no shit from anyone afterwards capping any crook that she crosses paths with. An unorthodox vigilante story with gripping performances by Foster and Howard.
I know its hard for a director to establish emotional relationships in movies sometimes, its better to show than to tell. But the relationship of Erica and her fiancé is one of the pit falls in this film. The constant flashbacks of the two were forced and redundant. You have to show that these two love each other and would drive Erica to become a vigilante, but this film just tells us over and over again with flashbacks, which slowed down the pace of the film and were not informative nor entertaining.
Other than that this was a good twist on the hero movie genre and every life in the film that Erica took was just. The end I didn't really see coming. It was a fitting showing Erica now living and struggling with what she has become.
