Review of The Brave One (2007) by Erik G — 26 Jan 2012
"I always believed that fear belonged to other people. And then it touched me.".
- Erica Bain.
At any moment the person you thought you love can vanish in the blink of an eye. How many wrongs does it take to make it right? New York radio host Erica Bain is badly wounded during an attack at the park left her badly while her fiance is left for dead. Not wanting to move away from the tragedy, she begins prowling the city streets at night to track down the men she holds responsible. Erica's dark pursuit of justice catches the attention from the public that is riveted by her anonymous exploits, but it also leaves the NYPD desperate to find the culprit and a dogged police detective hot on her trail.
Directed by Neil Jordan, 'The Brave One' features great acting performances from the following cast:
1.) Jodie Foster (Erica Bain).
2.) Terrence Howard (Detective Sean Mercer).
3.) Naveen Andrews (David Kirmani).
4.) Mary Steenburgen (Carol).
'The Brave One' is a dark story taking place in the big city, and it really plays the theme of vengeance on film well while recalling earlier B-revenge movies from directors like Sean Fuller and Dan Siegel. It also explores the ego of our main heroine who is ashamed of herself for all the brutal actions she's done while deciding whether to continue her current quest or get rid of the very thing inside of her, which is the killer herself. She does indeed have a second life in her head while her first is the ghost that walks alone at night. Ms. Foster does her great job in acting in her character as to prove to audiences that her courage is needed to represent what she is, having been hurt so badly but wants to turn her life around drastically. All the action scenes that she participates in are bloody, violent, and cinematographically done under the gun; it is impossible for me to turn away from the big screen to see all the action happening here. Overall, I can say that this is a great action thriller for fine viewing.
