This is quite the trippy little movie. They don't make kids movies like this anymore, and arguably for good reason. The characters are so incredibly mean to each other. It's also creepy and strange at certain parts.

The scene with the obese monster truck dude never ceases to weird me out. Let's not forget the deep sorrow and the primal fear that the Brave Little Toaster invokes. I still havn't fully recovered from A) the air conditioner scene and B) the car compacter scene.

Now that I've mentioned the bad aspects let me focus on the good. The dialogue is very good in this family movie; it's interesting and developed. I'm also a big fan of the main premise of the movie: don't sit around in life, get out and achieve your goals.

Aforementioned I discussed the cruelty of the characters, but simultaneously I enjoyed the cruelty because it allows the characters to become more complex. I know what your thinking, and yes, I am contending that a talking heating blanket can become a meaningful complex character.

With more developed/complex characters, The Brave Little Toaster is able to achieve what few kids movies ever can: an effective theme of human nature. The characters are not just acquaintances and there not merely unrealistic "best buds".

No, this bunch are real, believable friends. They have there arguments and difficulties, but at the end of the day the still need one another. And that reaches deeper into my spirit than any Pixar movie ever has.
