Review of The Brave Little Toaster (1987) by Charles P — 06 Jul 2014
A fun, breezy kid's movie that features classic hand-drawn animation and contains enough substance for adults to get on board! The story is a bit silly and bares homage to Homeward Bound, but the genius humanizing of all the appliances really sell the adventure.
The best character by far is Jon Lovitz as the radio and pretty much anything he did was a crack-up! The movie does tackle some surprisingly dark subject matter (in particular a scene where a blender is "murdered") and it is slightly jarring from the playful tone it had built up.
There's also one song too many and most of the songs come out of nowhere without much build-up. It is an enjoyable movie for families to watch, but I can't say I'd watch it again.
