Review of The Brass Teapot (2012) by Charles R — 21 Jul 2013
I'm gonna have to shake my head again at the low score that this fine movie is reduced to on the Tomatometer since I thought it went down just like lemonade - sweet and sour, with just enough kick to warrant another glass.
Juno Temple and Michael Angarano test their mettle against a kettle - *ahem* - teapot that has ancient mystical powers - those that grant 'pleasure' in the form of insane amounts of $$$ when its holder gets hurt.
The movie rides along smoothly in a race to see what the teapot holds (hint, it's more money) in store for our comically clueless couple. I, for one, seriously enjoyed the ride. GET IT TOGETHER TOMATOMETER.
4/5 Even if it feels a little geared towards the set who still watch MTV for the programming, it pleasantly mixes the juvenile and mature humor of the concept, depicting truths that challenge our voyeuristic pain/pleasure fetish culture, as well as whether or not girls are more f*^%ed up than guys.
Also (and I swear this is it) Alia Shawkat and Bobby Moynihan are perfectly cast, and I want to see them featured in more underground comedies like this one. (Now I'm done.... not that anyone cares.
.. ).
