Review of The Brain Eaters (1958) by Christopher S — 23 Oct 2009
What is that on the back of your neck?
A local sheriff discovers an odd spacecraft in his village. Shortly after the spacecraft is discovered, strange wormlike creatures appear from the Earth and begin invading people?s minds turning them into zombies. What is in the spacecraft and why is it causing people to turn into flesh eating zombies?
?If you cut a snake in half, the two pieces go off in separate directions.?
Bruno VeSota, director of Female Jungle and Invasion of the Star Creatures, delivers The Brain Eaters. The storyline for this picture is straight forward and classic 50s horror (i.e. lame special effects and action scenes). The acting is also a bit cheesy and includes Ed Nelson (Swamp Women) and Leonard Nimoy.
?The smartest thing for us to do is get out of here.?
The Brain Eaters is currently airing on AMC (I watched this when I first woke up this morning). This movie is only about an hour long and was a bit better than I anticipated and is better than most 50s science-fiction/horror pictures. The acting was solid and the film was entertaining. I would consider this an average film worth viewing but not worth owning.
?There is something out there. I can hear him breathing.?
Grade: C-.
