As "tragic-loss" stories go, it's not as by-the-numbers as one would think. Clive Owen gives his best, most emotionally effective performance since "Children of Men", and the supporting cast is just as strong.
Although it runs slowly in parts lacking extreme family drama, Scott Hicks mostly keeps the pace consistently fair to create a tender, original drama.
