Review of The Boys Are Back (2009) by Glenn D — 12 Apr 2010
Not to get it confused with Where The Boys Aren't type of filmmaking, this film has a good narrative.
The part that stands out for me is the teenager chooses the simplicity of living in the countryside of Australia where tragedy is as likely to happen in his suburban life in England.
Good drama maintains a difficult mixture of tension and queries without it being manipulative. Aside from the initial tragedy, the story jostles your preconceptions of what love and family is supposed to be when that inconceivable circumstance happens and you are given the responsibility for someone else's happiness.
