This is another one of those movies from my childhood, that is steeped in nostalgia. I had the biggest crush on Lucy Deakins' character, when I first saw it! The Boy Who Could Fly is another example of the creativeness that flourished in '80s fantasy movies.
The willingness to make a story, and not to necessarily explain (through science or logic) HOW, is something that has largely gone missing in movies today.
