Review of The Boy Next Door (2015) by Prentice S — 27 Sep 2015
"The Boy Next Door" is that terrible film that is so bad, it's still bad. Like, hysterically bad. It's funny at times (really, a "classics" teacher doesn't know that a first edition of the Iliad, should it exist, would be worth millions of dollars, yet a student finds one for her at a garage sale?), but most of it is just cringe-worthy.
Jennifer Lopez is awful; not that I've seen her really deliver as an actress, but she's just plain bad. Her opposite, Ryan Guzman, is equally terrible. The only shining moment is the sex scene: it's actually shot very well.
But the escalation of violence is weird, not scary, and the final battle is so unbelievable that it hurts. "The Boy Next Door" is good for a laugh or two, but really, it isn't worth any more than that.
