Review of The Boy and the Beast (2015) by Sean G — 25 Nov 2016
More fantastic work from Mamoru Hosoda who, again, manages to mix small, touching, family moments with wildly imaginative fantasy.
Hollywood cinema feels the need to over explain its premise and setting but anime in particular does not. It gives the audience some credit and it is much appreciated.
Boy and the Beast does not hold together as well as Hosoda's Summer Wars but is far above most other anime in terms of originality and depth of emotional resonance.
