Review of The Boxtrolls (2014) by Kj P — 03 Oct 2014
From Laika's third film, The Boxtrolls is a great film, but it's not as grand as the previous films. I thought that the beginning was terrible, I don't know why they went with that bit of subtleness, it felt out of place, too odd, and just not that funny.
Until when it got to two thirds of the film, that's when it starts getting good. The animation is always impressive to see, and the acting is really good which I didn't knew who voiced them until I saw the credits which impressed me.
In the two thirds of the film, they got rid of the subtleness in the first act, replaces that with actual funny moments. It actually has some action scenes in it which are great. It's a bit predictable, but it's also strange which I enjoyed.
The Boxtrolls themselves are great and really funny. The Boxtrolls is still a great film, just more flaws than the other films.
