Review of The Boxtrolls (2014) by Russell Q — 28 Feb 2015
Another way of Lakia trying to make their future films better than their previous ones. The Boxtrolls is another animated movie where families might be disappointed. Some parts of the movie got my attention, but other scenes just felt plain stupid and boring. Lakia tried their best to match the fantastic works of Coraline and Paranorman. In a small town called Cheesebridge, named because of the people's love of cheese, small creatures called the Boxtrolls run through the streets every night while people are in their homes. They look for garbage and trash that they use to create wonderful inventions. They also raise an orphaned boy they name Eggs to be like them. But when a nasty villain wants all the Boxtrolls gone, Eggs and the Boxtrolls team up with this girl named Winnie (Elle Fanning), to help the Boxtrolls, and prove to humans that boxtrolls are innocent and nice creatures.
Despite having an all-star cast and beautiful animation, The Boxtrolls fails to have the heart of Coraline, and the hilarity from Paranorman. It's okay, just not great.
