As usual Laika brought an incredible level of quality and detail to the city of Cheesebridge and to the world inhabited by White Hats, Red Hats, & Boxtrolls. something I realized about stop motion and animated movies is their ability to edge out needless exposition since they don't want to waste time and money on spending LITERAL months animating a scene that's going to waste.
the story was... predictable but MAN THAT DISGUSTING VILLAIN, Mr. Snatcher. I was blown away at how gross and annoying and just evil he was from the get-go. I think all filmmakers can learn a lot from Laika, which was HEAVILY influenced by Wallace & Grommet.
it's a great film, worth catching in theaters!
