I don't really know why but I just did not enjoy this movie. Going into this movie I was expecting to love it, from the trailers to the story it looked right down my alley but it just did not click to me.
A big complaint that I have is that the story was not what I expected it was kind of just a clinched kids story. The movie was just kind of nasty, mostly do to the character design. The best thing about the film is the filmmaking, stop motion animation is a fantastic and unique way to make a film and saved this movie for me.
The Boxtrolls themselves just felt to much like Gremlins or the Minions to me they just did not feel original. Overall I did not enjoy it, I say if you have kids who really want to see this just rent it or wait for it on TV.
