Review of The Boxtrolls (2014) by Ethan E — 24 Feb 2015
The boxtrolls is funny, cute, and somehow beautifully disgusting.
In the boxtrolls, a group of underground creatures called boxtrolls are being hunted down, because they are "monsters" and they survive by using the sewers as their base of sorts, hiding from the evil that lurks above.
Among these boxtrolls is a human boy they adopted named eggs, who after being raised by the boxtrolls all his life believes he is one. What follows is a hilarious adventure involving amazing stop motion, and lots of cheese jokes. Think of steampunk wallace and gromit.
The movie however feels just kind of average, that is until the final act of the movie. When it does get to that final act it is amazing. I had my eyes glued to the screen, the visuals were beautiful, and the jokes hit even harder. By far the best part of the whole movie.
