Review of The Box (2009) by Modern G — 26 Jan 2011
This movie is based on an episode of the Twilight zone; the "new" TZ that aired briefly from 1985 to 1986. The episode starred Mare Winningham , one of the original "brat-pack" and was titled "Button,Button".
I recommend checking it out first because I think you will find the premise of the story better told in that simpler (and shorter) format. Both the 30 minute teleplay and the movie were based on a short story by master horror craftsman Richard Matheson( Trilogy of Terror, I am Legend).
