Review of The Box (2009) by Asif K — 16 May 2011

A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who know that opening it will grant them a million dollars and kill someone they don't know.

Well this movie clearly looked bad and it was bad too. I must say the idea of it, the plot seemed good, different and attractive. A married couple receives a box, the stranger who sent the box claims that if they press the button inside the box someone they don't know, somewhere in the world will die and they will earn 1,000,000 million dollars and if they don't nothing will happen and they won't receive anything, it really sounds interesting and to some extent it is too. I though this movie being from the director of Donnie Darko would make this movie a cult classic like that one is, but not even near. first of all this movie is not what you would expect from the trailer or something it is very weird, strange and very odd. I mean you might have not seen much movies like this. its a very old fashioned sci fi suspense thriller kind with bad special effects.

I was excited to see this movie but it didn't turned out how I thought it will. the movie has very twists and turn which for a person like me is really big thing, I like it but I don't know why but in this case it made it hard to follow for me and I was tired. its very confusing and sleepy too. its is an unusual movie which may have been either good or bad or worst, its not worst but bad.

Acting wise a bad movie, as much as I like Cameron Diaz I really didn't liked her at all in this movie. she was awful in this movie. just one expression the whole movie. James Marsden atleast was a bit average. other actors like Frank Langella, James Rebhorn, Holmes Osborne , Sam Oz Stone , Gillian Jacobs , Celia Weston , Deborah Rush and many others were okay. screenplay could have been much better, story is average. but interesting. art direction was good, cinematography and costumes were okay, visual effects were bad. I wished it was a good movie but it isn't.
