Review of The Box (2009) by Calem M — 05 Aug 2011
Not as bad as I'd expected based upon the reviews, but still nowhere as good as Kelly's first film, Donnie Darko. I was glad that the film didn't stretch out the original story premise to two hours, but managed to expand upon the original premise in a way that I did not expect.
I read Kelly's explanation for the 1970s setting, but I really found the setting distracting and unnecessary. It may have ben what seemed to be a hyper 1970s reality that bothered me, but maybe that was intentional.
Still, Kelly does create an interesting atmosphere and I did want to see where the film was going. I'll stick with Kelly for a couple films more, before I declare him a one-film-wonder.
