The trailer plugs The Box as a main stream thriller based around one question.... Would you push a button for $1million in the knowledge someone you don't know will die? I was instantly put off until I realised Richard Kelly's (Donnie Darko) twisted mind had written it.
"There must be more to it?" I thought - and I wasn't wrong. Part Horror, part Sci-Fi, part Thriller, The Box takes you on a chilling rollercoaster ride of confusion, conscience, thrills, spills and the supernatural, posing questions on top of questions leaving the viewer thick in a plot more complicated than you originally thought.
Diaz is good, Marsden is his usual dull but Frank Langella steals the show with his eerie voice and piercing expression. Every time he is on the screen you are glued to it. Overall, The Box left me wanting to watch it all over again, however the second viewing simply emphasised how average and over ambitious it really is.
It's certainly no Donnie Darko and maybe Kelly was a little too adventurous here, but for fans of Kelly its still worthy of your time... Would you push the button?
