Review of The Box (2009) by Scout L — 12 Sep 2013
I have not seen the "Button Button" short film that this is based off of. However, it's a film that starts out very interesting, it does have that ability to hook you in. However, it drags too long and all of the energy of that first impression is lost.
The story suffers from trying to hard to be scary, and mysterious but it' ends up being neither of those. The suspense is completely drowned by confusion in many of the scenes. Really a twist with no meaningful twist.
The only message I can see, is consequences for decisions made are not changeable. Which can be applied in real life. It has a poorly executed ending, randomness surrounds this film making it vague, until I had no idea what I was watching.
The box... Check it out, but you're not missing much. (2 Stars for good acting by Cameron Diaz).
