Review of The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) by Aaron N — 15 Apr 2018
Following up the massive, as well as highly earned success and respect of the brilliant first two installments in the Jason Bourne Saga, The Bourne Ultimatum yet again pushes the envelope for the series into new, exhilarating heights. The shaky, yet impeccably controlled camerawork has been mastered, the musical score has been fine-tuned and perfected, and the plot leaves not a single second wasted, and gives the audience zero chances to catch their breath. The acting reaches a new emotional nirvana as well, portraying every distinct, subtle emotion and expression to a detailed point, and leads to the most realistic and believable performances in the series thus far, not to mention some of the darkest places the films have ever gone, period.
This is the movie that convinced me that Jason Bourne is not only a more interesting character than any and all other "covert-operatives" in cinema, including James Bond, but he is one of the most universally lovable characters in ANY genre of film. The breathtaking locations are abundant, the revelations are staggering, and the absolutely masterful way that this third installment ties off the trilogy leaves me to see this as nothing other than an action-thriller masterpiece. Holy hot DAMN. 9.8/10.
