Review of The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) by Jordan A — 14 Nov 2012
I honestly have trouble understanding the reputation and success of the Bourne trilogy. Each film has had a forgettable plot; I could barely remember what happened after it ended. The Bourne Supremacy had some intense moments, but the terrible action sequences were frustrating and lacked tension. The Bourne Ultimatum is a minor improvement over the last installment, but it suffers from almost all of the same problems. The plot is still forgettable, and the shaky-cam still ruins the action sequences. The ending is still underwhelming, as is the score. The characters are still pretty forgettable, and the script still gives the actors little to do. Luckily, Damon has a strong screen presence, there is some very intense dialogue, and David Strathairn gives a strong performance as Noah Vosen, who is a surprisingly good antagonist. The Bourne Ultimatum, just like the first two Bourne installments, doesn't live up to its reputation, but it does deliver as a mildly satisfying action film that won't leave any lasting impact on me.
Rating: 8/10.
