Review of The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) by Swaggersaurus D — 13 Jan 2019
The best, and I mean BEST, BOURNE movie in the entire series. Now, people who know me or who have read my previous review on THE BOURNE SUPREMACY come to me and say: "Hey! Wait a minute. How come you think SUPREMACY isn't that good but that ULTIMATUM is the best? It's made by the same director, ain't it?". And yes, it is. But that's beside the point.
The reason this movie trumps all the other movies is just because it is SO....FAST....PACED! I mean, seriously. This film immediately begins with action, and then constantly hits you with rapid-fire fight sequences and amazing chase scenes in quick succession! It's breath-taking. No, literally. It just doesn't let you breath because it's so fast-paced.
I also love Paul's signature quick-cut editing for the action scenes. He really perfected it in the movie, and some fight scenes are so much better than in SUPREMACY. For example, my favourite fight sequence of the entire franchise, the one with Bourne and Desh, was just so rough and violent and brutal, courtesy of Paul Greengrass's shaky cam/cuts. I also thought that this movie had new ideas. The rooftop scene in Tangier is just....a masterpiece.
I mentioned THE BOURNE SUPREMACY had an unsatisfactory story arc (in my opinion), and that I had one or two issues in the direction it was going (mainly because it wasn't faithful AT ALL to the novels). But THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM serves us a riveting ending, and I'm so glad for that too.
ULTIMATUM delivers all the thrills you need. Watch this now!
