Review of The Boss Baby (2017) by Greg C — 01 Apr 2017
I'm surprised, I actually really loved this film. To me, I'm more character driven than story driven, so anyone here wanting to see a perfect bullet proof story, sorry but you aren't going to get that here.
Instead, I went in and quickly copped on that everything happening in the film was from Tim's perspective and from his wild imagination. This story is told from the point of view of a child's imagination, and if you go in, knowing this, I swear you'll enjoy it a lot more.
The direction was pretty solid also, and I found myself caring about the two main protagonist quite a bit. I also thought they had fun personalities and the world was very colorful and alive. It was just all round good crazy fun, and to me, the crazier the film got, the funner it was (And there was some pretty out there stuff in this).
Also the animation was just gorgeous. When the scenes were aimed to be fantastical, they really felt like the brain of a kid, and even the normal animation in the film was gorgeous to look at. Also, I usually don't say this about a film, but the rhythm and flow of the film felt very smooth and the cut scenes transitioned so effortlessly that it had a strange feel to it that I hadn't experience from an animated film before. All in all, I really really loved this film, but I don't think it's for everyone. I think you have to be in touch with your inner crazy child for it, wanting to go on a bizarre crazy adventure, and if you're looking to join the dots together and want something that's concrete, than don't see this. I loved it, but I can see why some may not.
