Review of The Boss Baby (2017) by Veronique M — 17 Apr 2017
I get it, it's not for everyone but this movie didn't suck. I'm going to refute the main arguments people who complain about it suck here:
- The gross-out humor is very rare in it, there's a fake one but it's not like it was real puke, it was a green liquid being shot from a vacuum. Whoever is calling this movie gross in the comments is kind of a cry baby, pun intended.
- the humor is funnier if you actually work in a business related job. If not, you'll probably miss a lot of the jokes but I had a good laugh and those jokes were to be expected considering the theme especially when he said "win-win".
- the fact the plot is predictable is normal, if you watched movies for a while, all plots are predictable, it's a story about humans, you're a human. I would be worried if you can't predict some of the stuff they would do, just cheer up and learn to enjoy the ride regardless.
Now those are the reasons I liked this movie:
- the animation is really entertaining to look at, the baby is very well animated and so is the kid. Their expressions and movements are fun to look at.
- the environment design is beautiful, it's just the right amount of realism for a cartoon.
- the plot is relatable and is mostly the reason why it goes in strange directions sometimes. This story was clearly imagined by the protagonist but that's why you should see it as a "no-limits" kind of story. You didn't see critics boo Gandalf when he survived a thousand meters fall while riding a monster (even if it makes no sense).
- the baby is really entertaining but not in a show-off kind of way. It's just a character that's fun to see move around and talk. It never really gets obnoxious, unlike the minions.
