Review of The Boss (2016) by Greg C — 08 Apr 2016
Springsteen should sue for damage to the brand. I give that this latest Melissa McCarthy flick has nothing to do with the godfather of Jersey rock. McCarthy is a firecracker persona who is nearly as likeable as ever, but this script is a limp noodle.
There are too many low brow moments of prat falls and fist fights. The resolution of the main conflict is settled with farcical sword fight. In broad concept there was clearly room to explore something to empower young women.
Well, not so much here. The technical aspects are just passible. My view is that this product of the McCarthy and husband/director Ben Falcone team was not challenged enough in development.
