Review of The Borrowers (1997) by Jack C — 31 Mar 2009
I thought this was going to be a MASSIVE failure, a HUGE waste of my time, an ABSOLUTELY GIGANTIC STEAMING TURD of a film. This was not the case. "The Borrowers" big screen treatment does exactly what you'd expect of it.
It's fun, cute, good special effects, lots of moments where kids will go "yeah" and it has Hugh Laurie as a policeman. John Goodman's great in it, channeling that Coen-esque sense of crazy and Jim Broadbent is super as the lead Borrower.
His voice drawls in dulcet tones and he's a great heart to the film. And that's the thing this film has, heart. Even if it is a tiny one, it's got a lot of love to give.
