Review of The Borrowed Christmas (2014) by Roger D — 10 Dec 2014
I respect all they were trying to do and the class they show in doing it. That said, there was not one aspect of film production that succeeded. The direction, cinematography, lighting, sound, music, all were barely serviceable and, at times, laugh out loud bad.
The script was a huge fail with inane dialogue and a complete and total lack of surprise. From the first scene I knew exactly how this film would play out. As to the acting, being kind I would say that aside from the leading lady (who was pretty good), most were just adequate.
There were two performances that were so completely horrid that every time one of them came on screen, the movie ground to a halt. No names since one of them was a child and does not need to be trashed at his/her age.
I blame the director. Suffice it to say that neither one could play a boulder with any level of sincerity. Yet I have to admit the characters did grow on me to a degree and I found myself emotionally involved at the climax.
A little. My best advice to the writer/producer/director Chip Rosetti - you need an independent producer who can and will tell you when it isn't working. By keeping all the reins, you lost a real chance to make something special out of a worthwhile notion.
I wanted this to be a terrific Christmas present but what I got was coal.
