Review of The Book Thief (2013) by Ernest C — 27 Sep 2014
The emotional depth, complexity of the different themes and deft wording of the book doesn't properly translate onto screen, but this is still a reasonably serviceable film. It is visually fine and the good performances (especially from Nico Liersch as Rudi) make up for any oversimplification of the story and of Nazi Germany, and overt sentimentality.
