Review of The Book Thief (2013) by Brad S — 29 Mar 2015
Another look at the holocaust, Nazi Germany, and World War II, this time from the point of view of a young German girl who keeps losing everyone in her life. For the most part, I was captivated by the story and interested in seeing what would happen.
But not that much happens in the end. It's a missed opportunity. And the voiceover seemed completely weird and out of place. Solid performances from the cast, gorgeous production design and cinematography, and strong music from composer John Williams.
It just didn't add up to more than its parts. But it's worth a watch IMO, if just to add to our understanding of this historic time in our history.
