Review of The Book Thief (2013) by Frances H — 13 Aug 2014
A really touching film that I liked very much with really good performance by Rush and Watson, in particular, but then, when do they give anything else? The book burning scene reminded me very much of Fahrenheit 451, one of my favorite movies.
The humanity of all the characters is what touched me most. I strongly feel, as a history teacher who has taught this era, that the criticism of the film as "A bit too safe in it's handling of its Nazi Germany setting" is not correct.
There was constant fear going on, and the story was told as children see the world, through their own eyes and the eyes of their parents.
