Review of The Book of Life (2014) by Geoffrey G — 31 Jan 2015
Not bad, but not great either. it was decent. about halfway through, the pacing is shot to heck and it just becomes a long string of jokes and deus ex machina. There is a distinct lack of character development, some of what could have been the most compelling character development is just sort of past over by spontaneous unexplained character personality shifts, and the fight choreography of the whole climax is abysmal. should have been less front heavy, developed more with a smaller cast.
The best parts were in the trailer (spoilers), and the movie is gettibg attention because of its latino cultural orientation. Honestly, this level of mythos, voice acting, and cg deserved a better script and more balanced plot.
