Review of The Book of Life (2014) by Chichu R — 03 Aug 2018
I seem to be in the minority with my opinion on this film. My take on it was that it was a dumbed-down, predictable, laugh-free and quite frankly patronising (towards its target audience) take on what could, in the hands of someone who realised the intelligence and depth of thought a child can possess, have been a genuinely moving film open to the more profound side of an event as serious and significant as The Day of the Dead.
Instead, this is a film that is admittedly accessible, and in some cases with admittedly superb animation, but accessible for all the wrong reasons.
