Review of The Book of Henry (2017) by Jackobieonekanobie A — 04 Sep 2018
Its advertised as like a slice of life/childlike wonder and growing up movie but it was more on the realistic side to fit in that genre But I see what the director is trying to do here. The film emphasises a conflict that is much more important for the attention of the audience to be engaged with or aware of than what the movie was advertised to be.
It was advertised as a happy and heartwarming movie but is focusing on a background character that is classmates with Henry that is being molested and abused by her stepdad. Ive never seen anything like it.
Its showing a perspective that people rarely want to witness or listen to but is extremely important And closer to home than people think sadly, I used to have a friend in middle school who went through a very similar situation this girl is going through and she didnt know to tell anyone about it for years.
Its a story of purpose, growth, courage, hardship, childhood, family and much more. All the characters are complex and the camera shots very clearly make sure to not give too much attention to one characters perspective which I think is very important in storytelling.
The acting was impressive in the young actors but a little weak in the adult but not bad enough to complain about. A powerful Truley a must see movie. If you cant appreciate the movie appreciate the message.
Dont get dicouraged by all the negative reviews it is a unique movie I think people weren't ready for but by far not in a negative way. Just watch it :).
