Review of The Book of Eli (2010) by Allen B — 15 Apr 2012
So in this movie we got a post apocalyptic film where everything important is destroyed from books, to music, and even combs. Because everyone in this movie are scruffy looking bastards. Not to mention you always got that one guy who always wears a gas mask where ever he goes. I mean it is 110 degrees outside and you think you're a badass just by wearing a gasmask? Any who, let's get on with the review because when I looked up who else was in this movie, I began to have my doubts. The reason is that Malcolm McDowell was in this and I immediately said, "Fuck no! This movie is going to suck." But after watching this, Hollywood quickly proved to me how wrong I was about this.
First off, the beginning part of the movie made me laugh a little with one of the first things that Denzel looks for are pair of new shoes because his other shoes are worn out. I mean ain't that typical for a brotha? He needs food, water, but what's a black man gonna look for first...sneakers. So any way, what I love about this film is that it's bleak and how it takes some of the similar notes in the sense of the scavenging and cannabalism. So may say that it's preachy, but I do not think that it is preachy at all. It's incredibly violent and I don't think it violates its own universe. There's been so many stories about these prophets of God, but you can take this and it doesn't really have to be a Christianity. This guy could be faithful to the Quran, Torah, or even Scientology at that. Overall it's a post apocalyptic film rated R Christian film starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman. I really enjoyed it a lot and it is going to be one of those overlooked movies that people will regret if they don't watch it.
