Review of The Book of Eli (2010) by Beau R — 02 Sep 2012
If "Mad Max" and "The Sixth Sense" had a love child it would be "The Book of Eli". The Hughes brothers do a good job creating a dark, sepia toned post apocalyptic world. Eli played by Denzel Washington, is an old man on mission to protect a sacred book and deliver it somewhere out west.
This really is a classic western movie albeit without any horses. As difficult as it has become for Denzel to get lost in a character, he does the best job I've seen since " Training Day".
Gary Oldman does that evil villain thing quite well and delivers here. Mila Kunis does her best to not be Jackie from "That 70's show" but it's still shines through. The pace is kinda slow and too much time is spent watching Eli walk, but there is good message/warning and a neat twist that's worth waiting for.
