Review of The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990) by Paul H — 23 Jun 2007
Even in its own right, if considered separately from the book, it really takes satire to level of mockery with a clean Hollywood ending that is downright ridiculous. It begins as you'd imagine, with our journalist friend loving his new-found celebrity after writing a book about the protagonist.
By the time you reach its end, however, you've seen it churn itself into a protagonist pity/win-fest. Read the book and imagine it unfold in your head instead. You'll be doing yourself a favor.
