Review of The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990) by Brad W — 24 Oct 2008
I cannot tell a lie. I love this movie. From Tom Hanks, Melanie Griffith and especially Bruce Willis being miscast, gutting some of the books most biting observations and just not enough Kim Catrall I still laugh out loud everytime I watch it.
Brian De Palma's movie was attacked on all sides when it was released. A lot of the criticism was valid. I don't care. The opening tracking shot, Melanie Griffith wondering "Where are all the white people", John Hancock's sermon to the detectives and Alan King's death scene alone are reason enough for me to watch this movie over and over again and laugh everytime.
Definitely not to everyone's taste. Highly recommended.
